African-Americans largely fall into three camps with respect to white-black marriage. A single camp, somewhat smaller, openly champions it to be a good. Its members argue that increasing rates of interracial marriage will decrease social segregation, persuade racial open-mindedness, increase blacks' access to enriching social networks, elevate their status, and empower black women in their interactions with black Gentlemen by subjecting the latter to greater competition inside the marketplace for companionship.

We can easily start by not emotionally abandoning the Black women closest to us. Or we could start by not punishing Black girls and Black women for being molested and being victims of sexual assaults, observing as most of such assaults occur by people close to us.

Patterson's second assert is that eliminating the informal racial boundaries within the marriage market would especially profit black women—because large numbers of white Adult males are and will increasingly become open to marrying black women, if given a chance.
